Blue Shirts

DiscoveryBound NLC is working under the direction of the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance and the United Way. These two organizations are coordinating flood relief projects in Iowa City. We are all wearing the blue shirts that St. Andrews Church gave to us that say "Presbyterian Disaster Assistance." We did not want the people living or driving through Mosquito Flats to think that we were random teens mowing lawns, so to avoid suspicious questions we coordinated by wearing the blue shirts while mowing the lawns. --Lyssa & Lena

  1. What a great job you are all doing!

Looking at your t-shirts, with Disaster Relief written on them, one might be tempted to believe you are cleaning up from a disaster. I looked up “disaster” in Webster’s dictionary and it is defined as a mischance, misfortunate. We can clean up the thought that anything can happen by chance or outside of God’s control.

Mrs. Eddy only uses the term disaster to say that “A false sense of what constitutes happiness is more disastrous to human progress than an enemy or enmity…” from her article Love Your Enemies. What you are bringing is a fresh thought , spiritual happiness, joy, kindness, love and good deeds! That “real” happiness will last forever with the Iowa residents and you!
We are so proud of you!
